Standing vs Sitting – When and Why

EnduroSchool Admin April 1, 2026 1 min read

One of the biggest questions in enduro:

👉 Should you sit or stand?

The answer is simple:

👉 Stand most of the time. Sit when it makes sense.

Why Standing Is Key

Standing gives you:

  • Better balance

  • More control

  • Freedom to move

It allows the bike to move under you.

When to Stand

👉 Technical terrain
👉 Rocks, roots, mud
👉 Uphill sections
👉 Downhill control

When to Sit

👉 Flat corners
👉 Long transport sections
👉 When resting (briefly)

The Biggest Mistake

❌ Sitting when things get difficult

That’s exactly when you should stand.

Drill

👉 Ride a full section standing only
👉 Focus on relaxing your legs
👉 Let the bike move
